Update for August 27, 2010: It has been a crazy summer, and very little writing has been done. I got back from the RCCO convention in Victoria with a brand new degree (ARCCO!) and some nice scholarships. I then proceeded to have an overabundance of work at my day job, and got brought in as an instructor for the From The Top Arts Camp for their Vocal Ensemble and Musical Theatre courses; I was privileged to work with some amazing young women. The downside for the website is of course the lack of new material! And it's just about vacation time. The fall will bring a swarm of work, including a commission or two, and I'm really looking forward to it. In the meantime, feel free to look over the stuff here, and please let me know what you think! Ongoing project The St. James Psalter is complete in version 1.0! It currently consists of a responsorial version of every psalm in the lectionary, plus a few which aren't. No samples are online at the moment, but contact me for more information and a free sample or two! Welcome! Hello! Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Michael Cutler. I'm an organist, accompanist, and composer/arranger (among other things) from Winnipeg. On this site, you can find my compositions, check out MIDI renderings and audio and video recordings of my work (both my performances and others, and not just of my own music) and contact me if you'd like to hire me as an accompanist or soloist, if you'd like to purchase a score, or if you'd like to commission a piece of music. In my solo recitals, I tend to give lecture-recitals of short organ pieces with the intent of showing of something about the music or about the organ. I also do concerts of large-scale works, usually minus the lecture portion. As an accompanist and chamber musician, I'm a valuable addition to any ensemble, and able to work with any group in any style of music. My compositions are in a Romantic style and tend to be quite heavily structured and focussed on a melody, and I write for any and all occasions. Why am I doing this? Well, first of all, being online will hopefully put me in contact with people who are looking for my services. As for self-publishing, I've noticed that it's very difficult to find new choral music that is serious, easily accessible to both choir and audience, of good quality, and readily available. This may be the case in other fields as well, I don't know, but I apply the same principles to all my compositions: they must be something that musicians will want to perform, that audiences will want to hear, and that is well put together. Again, welcome to my website; I hope you enjoy your time here! Please contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. I look forward to hearing from you! ***OLD NEWS*** July 2010: The Sorceror's Apprentic added. June 17, 2010: Four poems by John Donne added. May 17, 2010: Ode, my contest winner, is made available.
